WHERE WE WORK

Volta Region

The Volta Region, one of Ghana's ten administrative regions stretches between the Volta Lake by the west and east by the Republic of Togo and south by the Atlantic Ocean. The region continues to grapple with large pockets of poverty, inadequate of health services illiteracy, and environmental degradation.

We are partnering with the local governments, businesses, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to tackle these challenges. By harnessing the innovation and expertise that exists throughout the region, we can create a healthier, safer and more prosperous future for the people in the Region.

Working in the Region,we focused on promoting and protecting the right to health and fair and universal access to primary health care services for the most vulnerable individuals, families and communities in the Region. We provide the network of health services with improved infrastructure and equipment and supporting training for healthcare personnel in emergency and obstetric care so that they can respond to local emergencies in their community.

Other primary health interventions in the Region provide a comprehensive package of services that includes child immunization, Vitamin A supplementation, de-worming of under-fives and pregnant women, treatment of childhood illnesses; reducing anemia prevalence among pregnant women and women of reproductive age through universal supplementation of pregnant women with daily iron/folic acid tablets etc.

We are empowering the population, with an emphasis on women, adolescents and men, through training and activities in areas of sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health and the workings of the community health system.

To FARIAD , education is regarded as a basic human right and considered vital to development. Not only does education empower people, but it gives them the knowledge and skills to broaden their economic and social opportunities. FARIAD also recognizes the role of education in poverty reduction and is making serious efforts to improve and reform the education sector.

We continue to increase student performance particularly among girls. We are working with the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Education to improve the quality of education by improving data management to support decision making, establishing an electronic human resource record keeping system, supporting policy research, encouraging education reforms, focusing on improved leadership at the school level, and supporting ways to target and analyze poor student performance in the classroom.

Through our work of supporting quality education in the Region, FARIAD empowers community members to improve the standard of local education by supporting and training parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committees (SMCs) bodies; and by providing small grants for communities to run their own school improvement projects.

FARIAD also champions programs with cross-cutting effects on health. A water, sanitation, and hygiene program increases students’ access to clean water and latrines, and promotes girls education.
